J’S RACING SPL LOW TEMP THERMOSTAT
OEM thermostats usually will activate coolant circulation in the engine at a rather high temperature; low-temperature thermostats will activate this circulation earlier at a lower temperature, encouraging more cooling in racing or track applications where temperatures tend to rise very quickly. This is also extremely useful for cars running in tropical, hot climates.

AVA Brake System

A look at the uniquely designed slotted rotors will give you an idea of what this brake kit is all about – sheer performance and daily drivability both in one package.

Being manufactured in the same factory as other highly-regarded brands, AVA brakes are the perfect upgrade option for your car’s OEM brakes.

Often, you may find that the stopping distance in front of you does not seem long enough. That is because the brakes that you have do not give you the confidence in stopping in time. So, while upgrading your brakes may not shorten the braking distance, it will allow you to have a much sharper pedal feel that translate into a more confidence-inspiring braking whenever the need arises. It allows you to drive sportily without worrying that your brakes may not be up to standard. AVA brakes can do exactly that and more.

PERFORMANCE
There is no doubt AVA is about extreme performance; the available sizes are only either the mini 6-piston type or the full-size 6-piston type. This is to ensure that sufficient brake power is at hand at all times.

It is a direct bolt-on to various Japanese models such as the Civic FD1, Accord, Fit, Lancer EX, Wish, Vios, Mark X, Impreza, Swift and Mazda 3. The most popular models sold in the local market is well-represented by AVA as it is compatible with most if not all of them. No additional modifications are needed for these purpose-built brakes if they are fitted to the abovementioned models and more.

The surprising versatility of the brakes mean that they are said to be suitable for both street and track use, offering frequent track day goers the convenience of a do-it-all brake system.

FLEXIBILITY
The brakes are also available in either slotted or cross-drilled rotors depending on your preference. Built to withstand harsh conditions, it holds a one-year warranty against any manufacturing defects.

OBD Tuning

Tuning is becoming the fastest and easiest way to extract more power and torque from any car.

As drivers become more knowledgeable and demanding as well as the need to improve on emissions, the use of electronics has become prevalent. Car manufacturers are now relying on automotive electronics automotive more than ever before to meet with the demands for better fuel consumption, more power and lower toxic emission.

Why tune?
Some of the latest models have incorporated the OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) standards on their ECU Electronic Control Unit which manages the electronics that operates the engine and ancillaries such as the Electronic Fuel Injection, air-conditioner, anti-lock brakes, traction control, automatic transmission etc. This new standards makes it very difficult or almost impossible for third-party tuning companies other than the manufacturer to reprogram the ECU for better performance. Now why would you need to reprogram the ECU you might ask? Didn’t the manufacturer do a good job? Most car manufacturers are conservative with their programming of the ECUs as they cater to different types of drivers ranging from the old gentlemen types to wannabe boy racers. The manufacturer has essentially “detuned” the engine to suit poorer fuel quality, long service intervals, dusty environment and at the same time provide reliability and good fuel economy.

A number of tuning companies have redesign programs for various types of ECUs to cater to the performance oriented driver and this involves the changing of a chip or EPROM Electrically Programmable Read Only Memory where the program resides. However, this involves the removal of the ECU and the changing of the electronic chip and lots of soldering especially on the newer models. Messing about with the ECU board is not an exciting proposition. Alternatively, some workshops are using piggyback ECUs such as Unichip, EManage, Obit and Silent. These piggyback ECU are also called ‘Interceptors’ as they are used by the tuners to intercept signals. Some of the car’s ECU wires are cut and intercepted by the piggyback ECU. But this is a subject for another day.

Forward-looking
OBD Tuning or Serial Programming is the modern version of chipping. When you "chip" a car you basically put in a chip that has a set of data already burnt onto it, into your ECU. When you OBD remap an ECU, you save off the data currently stored on the chip and overwrite it with the performance data. This then allows you to apply different maps where applicable and also restore the original data should you require it. The benefit obviously of this is that it means you have not changed any standard part of the car and therefore warranty is unaffected etc.

A PC or laptop is used to download your original map for safe keeping and another copy remapped for performance. The tuner makes changes to the air/fuel map and ignition timing as well as the boost map for a more aggressive characteristic. However, as you have remapped the ECU for increased performance, it demands that you use higher octane petrol and have more frequent service intervals. This remapping of the ECU allows you to achieve better response throughout the rpm bandwidth.

A Singapore based company called OBD Tuning (S) Pte Ltd remaps European models such as Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Fiat, Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes, Mini Cooper, Opel, Porsche, Peugeot, Renault, Skoda, VW and now, Japanese models such as Mitsubishi EVOs and Subaru WRXs.

Tomax Performance Brake Pads

Tomax Performance brake pads were developed for Nissan’s range of car models which includes the renowned world class beater Nissan Skyline GTR.

These high performance brake pads are designed and manufactured in Japan and provide braking performance standards greater than OE Original Equipment. Tomax brake pads range includes:

RH 1300 – Long Lasting, Comfortable Braking Controllability than Original Brake Pad. (Street Use), RH 1200 – Balanced Brake Force from Low to High speed, Balanced Brake Force at Low Temperature, Balanced Pad Abrasion and Higher Friction against Rotor for Sport Driving. (Tight Cornering) and RH 600 – Highest Brake Response in Normal Cruising at Low Temperature, not suitable for High Temperature Braking usage. (Advanced Sport Driving).

Brake Pads Characteristics
A good friction material must have these characteristics: Friction coefficient must be high; friction coefficient must not change with increasing temperature; should not wear rapidly; should not damage surface it rubs against; must withstand high temperature without failing; should not be noisy when brakes are applied.

Unfortunately, there is no perfect friction material. Instead, there are many different types, each one made to emphasize a particular characteristics or several of them. The ideal friction material or brake pad for severe or racing use is not the same as that for lowest-cost passenger-car use.

Selecting Correct Brake Pads
Selection of the proper brake pads depends on the following - vehicle use – Easy Street Driving or Hard Street Driving? Cost versus Budget is also a concern, as with the maintenance you are willing to put up with.

Easy Street Driving
For street use or normal driving, most people choose the lowest-cost brake pads. However, you get what you pay for. Cheap brake pads may squeal and wear out faster than the more expensive quality brake pads. Consequently, they may end up costing you more. Worst yet, they may fade in some unexpected hard braking and you hit something. So, even though most street driving is easy on the brakes, it is best to get high-quality brake pads.

The Tomax RH 1300 would be a great choice for drivers who just want to increase braking performance without resorting to a change of braking system.

Hard Street Driving
Use heavy duty brake pads for hard street driving or when carrying heavy loads. Heavy-duty material has greater wear resistance and better braking performance at high temperatures. Although they usually cost more initially, they’ll be more economical on the long run.

In this category, the Tomax RH 1200 or RH 600 would be applicable as they can handle higher operating temperatures.

Available for Nissan models: March, Latio, Sylphy, Cefiro, Teana, Lafesta, QashQai, Presage, Murano, Elgrand
